Regexdrill

Level 3: Real-world validation Exercise 29 of 52 Pro

URL slugs

A regex exercise from Regexdrill. Solve it with a pattern box with live highlighting in your browser, checked against hidden test strings, and it is checked the moment you submit.

The task

The whole line must match. Match a URL slug: lowercase letters and digits in chunks joined by single hyphens. No hyphen at the start or end and no doubled hyphens.

What this exercise teaches

[a-z0-9]+(?:-[a-z0-9]+)* puts every hyphen between two chunks.

A hint if you get stuck

One chunk, then any number of hyphen-plus-chunk groups.
