Group without capturing
A regex exercise from Regexdrill. Solve it with a pattern box with live highlighting in your browser, checked against hidden test strings, and it is checked the moment you submit.
The task
Each match is one or more copies of ab or cd, immediately followed by a number. Capture only the number in group 1.
What this exercise teaches
(?:ab|cd)+(\d+) repeats the pairs inside a non-capturing group, which leaves group 1 for the digits.
A hint if you get stuck
(?:...) groups like parentheses but does not capture, so it does not take group number 1.
